My husband and I went to see Dan Friday night at Wolf Trap in Vienna,
VA. It was an amazing experience. Last time we saw him was 3 yrs.
ago in Lexington, VA in a less than ideal venue, the Lime Kiln (could
be spectacular but they expected rain and moved the show under a tent
with a dirt-floor stage--Dan was NOT amused).

Friday night was great and Dan was in fine form. The band was super,
different bass player [Paul Smith] than last time we saw the band--4 time grammy
loser is the way that Dan introduced him. Richard Chon on violin
still fabulous, lead guitar [Dave Bell] great and the Lickettes [Roberta Donnay & Daria]
were in rare form as Roberta Donnay had family members in the audience--she is
apparently originally from the D.C. area. Dan said that he has found
a category to put his music into: Caucasian Hip Hop--he repeated this
a few times.

Song list along with comments:
Topsy/Swing 42
Saving My Loving--new
Evening Breeze-new
Diplomat really good song
Who are you, where are you going, what is your sign, are you
alone--really in the Dan Hicks tradition!
I'm an Old Cowhand--the crowd went wild
I Scare Myself--Ditto
Intermission
My Blue Heaven--really good rendition along with a dance routine
performed by Dan and the Lickettes
Subterranean Homesick Blue by Dylan--because Dan said that people say
he doesn't cover enough other people's songs--these people being Bruce
Springsteen and Britney Spears
Jug Band Music
Along Came a Viper--from the White Album he said
Let it Simmer--new song--he did not know the lyrics
The Piano has been Drinking--bludgeoned--yes!--into performing this by
the crowd! He did not remember some of the lyrics
There Ain't a Guy who Wouldn't Want to be in my Shoes, but I wear a 13D
Payday Blues
I Feel like Singing
Black Headed Buzzard
The Encore was a very Cowboyish song that my husband and I really enjoyed.

The show went on for 2 1/2 hours including a 15 minute intermission.
